|The Pussycat Dolls was originally formed as a Las Vegas style burlesque troupe in 1995. On stage they performed 1950s and 1960s pop standards while dressed in sexy outfits or lingerie. They held residency at The Viper Room in Los Angeles from 1995 to 2001 and then later at The Roxy in West Hollywood. The group was featured in many magazines (including Playboy), TV specials, movies, and ads. As a burlesque troupe, their lead performer was Carmen Electra. They became a pop music group when they signed a record deal with Interscope Records in 2003. The recording act experienced several lineup changes, eventually becoming a five member group with Nicole Scherzinger (of Eden's Crush) as the lead singer. A reformed burlesque-style show began in 2005 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and continues to this day.|
The first single from the PCD album, "Don't Cha", was a cover of Tori Alamaze's 2004 single. It became the #2 pop hit the USA and #1 in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, and New Zealand. As a club hit (with the help of the Ralphi Rosario Mix) it reached the #1 position in the USA and also became the top single of the year. The album produced a total of six singles, though not all were dance songs.
In May 2008 the Pussycat Dolls released "When I Grow Up", the first single from the second album. It reached #9 on the US Billboard pop chart and #1 on the Billboard club chart.
